Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare baking sheets.
  2. Mix flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream butter, sugars, and vanilla until smooth. Add eggs one at a time.
  4. Gradually mix in dry ingredients. Fold in chocolate chips and nuts.
  5. Drop dough onto baking sheets and bake for 9-11 minutes. Cool on wire racks.

Notes

For softer cookies, slightly underbake and let cool on the baking sheet.
