Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 egg egg
Additional Ingredients
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk for icing
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Mix dry ingredients and set aside.
  2. Cream butter, sugar, and molasses until smooth.
  3. Add egg and vanilla, then combine with dry ingredients.
  4. Divide dough, wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C), roll out dough, cut shapes, and bake for 10 minutes.
  6. Decorate with icing and store once cooled.

Notes

Chill the dough thoroughly for best results and avoid overbaking.
