Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 egg egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional) optional
Icing
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk adjust for consistency
Food coloring (optional)

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix dry ingredients; cream butter and sugar, then add egg and extracts.
  3. Combine wet and dry, chill dough for 1 hour.
  4. Roll out dough, cut shapes, and bake 8-10 minutes until golden.
  5. Mix powdered sugar and milk for icing, color if desired, then decorate cooled cookies.

Notes

Chill the dough thoroughly for best results and decorate with colorful icing.
