Easy & Delicious Royal Icing Recipe

Ingredients
  

Powdered Sugar
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
Egg Whites or Meringue Powder
  • 3 large egg whites egg whites or 1/4 cup meringue powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon lemon juice
Food Coloring (optional)
  • as needed food coloring
Water (as needed)
  • as needed water to adjust consistency

Method
 

  1. In a large bowl, sift powdered sugar to remove lumps.
  2. Beat egg whites until frothy or combine meringue powder with water as per package instructions.
  3. Gradually add powdered sugar to egg whites, mixing on low until combined.
  4. Add vanilla and lemon juice, then beat on medium until stiff peaks form (5-7 min).
  5. Divide and add food coloring if desired; mix until uniform. Thin with water if too thick.

Notes

Use immediately or store in an airtight container to prevent drying out.
