Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Decorations
  • colored icing (store-bought or homemade)
  • sprinkles and edible decorations (optional)

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment.
  2. Mix dry ingredients; cream butter and sugar, then add molasses, egg, vanilla.
  3. Combine wet and dry to form dough; roll out to 1/4 inch thick and cut into Christmas trees.
  4. Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are firm; cool completely.
  5. Decorate with colored icing and sprinkles; let set before serving.

Notes

Use a piping bag for precise icing decoration.
