Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl.
  3. Cream butter and sugar, then add molasses and egg.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients to form dough, then roll out.
  5. Cut shapes, place on baking sheet, and bake 8-10 mins.
  6. Cool cookies before decorating.

Notes

Chill the dough for easier handling and better flavor.
