Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix dry ingredients; cream butter and sugar, then add molasses, egg, vanilla.
  3. Combine wet and dry; chill dough for 1 hour.
  4. Roll out, cut shapes, and place on baking sheet.
  5. Bake 8-10 minutes; cool on wire rack.
