Green Bean Casserole Elevated A Thanksgiving Classic Reimagined

Ingredients
  

Green Beans
  • 1 kg fresh green beans, trimmed and halved
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped approx. 200g
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced approx. 2 tsp
  • 225 g cremini mushrooms, sliced
  • 1/4 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/4 tsp dried rosemary
  • to taste Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 can Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup 10.75 oz / 305g
  • 120 ml milk whole or 2%
  • 120 ml sour cream
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 large shallots, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour 60g
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • for frying Vegetable oil approx. 1-2 cups

Method
 

  1. Slice shallots, toss with flour and salt, then fry until golden. Drain on paper towels.
  2. Blanch green beans in salted boiling water for 3-4 minutes, then cool in ice bath and drain.
  3. Sauté onion in olive oil until softened, add garlic and mushrooms; cook until tender. Season with herbs, salt, and pepper.
  4. Mix in mushroom soup, milk, sour cream, soy sauce, lemon juice, and green beans. Transfer to baking dish.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes, then top with fried shallots and bake another 10-15 minutes.

Notes

Frying shallots adds a delightful crunch and flavor to elevate this classic dish.
