Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar, for rolling

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheet.
  2. Mix dry ingredients in a bowl; set aside.
  3. Cream butter and sugar, then add molasses, egg, vanilla.
  4. Combine wet and dry, chill dough 30 mins.
  5. Shape dough into balls, coat with powdered sugar, bake 10-12 mins.

Notes

Chilling the dough makes it easier to handle and shapes better.
